I am certainly not the target audience but I have an 11 year old avid reader, and I like to know what she is reading.This will definitely become one of her favorites (her other favorites are listed above) it gets a strong A in my opinion. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoyed the Percy Jackson series or other Riordan books.I am Number Scotts Alchemist series.or Simon Bloom. I have already looked for other books by Richard Evans. It has some obvious parallels to Riordan's Percy Jackson series but stands on its own quite well. It is not the great novel of the century but is a wonderful pleasure read. I'll bet you like it and if not, your teenagers certainly will.Ī great book.I can write that confidently even though I am only 1/2 way thru it.I have not listened to a book that held my attention this closely for a very long time.I listen while I am doing other things because I dont have time to just sit and read anymore.I often have to 'rewind' because I became distracted and missed so much.That was not the case with this book.
Clearly this will be a multi-volume work and if the first book is any indication, this will be a very popular series. I can only assume this story was conceived by the author long before the TV show otherwise I'd be a little disappointed with the "save the cheerleader, save the world" aspect of the Michael Vey story. It's obvious this story will draw comparisons to the TV series Heroes, and I agree with that comparison. The character development, which is normally lacking in an action novel, was just enough. The story itself is gripping (don't we all wish we had super powers?) and the action is nicely paced. I'm 42 and the father of a 12 year old but I couldn't put it down.
I'm almost embarrassed to admit I not only listened to but really enjoyed this book seeing as it's classified in the young adult genre.
